Here Comes the Sun

After a day of rain yesterday, this morning dawned bright and beautiful (albeit a little chilly!). The lake was calm, which made for perfect skiing this morning, and later there was even enough wind for sailing. Kids in morning activities had a little trouble motivating to get in the lake, but by the afternoon it had […]

What Rain?

So….we’d like to say that it never rains at Deerhorn…but our Creed tells us to “speak the truth.”  Today was definitely a rainy day at camp, but it was one of the first ones we have had in a long time, and honestly, kids usually seem to welcome the downtime from the fast-paced, action packed, typical […]

Chariots of Fire

It’s been a fantastic, fun-filled Sunday at camp.  We all love sleeping in an extra hour on Sunday mornings, and who doesn’t love cinnamon toast for breakfast? After breakfast, kids enjoyed some free time to hang out with their friends, play ultimate frisbee, or street hockey on the Skeeter. At noon, Bear gave the Words […]

The Deerhorn Sun

The latest issue of the Deerhorn Sun is hot off the presses.  Check it out to find out the latest and greatest info about what’s been happening around camp, brought to you by our camper journalists.  Great work once again, Deacon and Squirrel!   Deerhorn Sun 2015 B1

Happy 4th of July

I’m sure there are many of you who are missing your boys this holiday weekend…and perhaps worried that they are missing many 4th of July festivities…That is most definitely NOT the case. We celebrate the 4th of July in high style here at Camp Deerhorn.  Whether it’s red, white, and blue pancakes for breakfast, bandanas […]

Getting Settled

After cinnamon rolls for breakfast this morning, kids went back to their koogees to clean up and get ready for activities.  They found out what activity groups they were in and then headed off to activities for orientations and fun! The thirty kids who stayed over from A session are headed for the day to […]

B Session Begins

Sunshine and blue skies greeted our B session campers as they arrived at camp.  A few came by car throughout the day, but most arrived by bus this afternoon around 3:15.  This morning for breakfast was bagels, and lunch was sub sandwiches. As campers arrived at Deerhorn, they were put into activity groups by age, […]

The Sun Sets on A Session

Our first session concluded this morning with the awards breakfast.  We all enjoyed the waffles and sausage for breakfast and  many awards were passed out, like Most Improved Patches and patches earned for stars.  The three sharpshooter awards for riflery went to Buzz Vollmer for juniors, Johnny Kasten for intermediates, and Logan Persson for seniors. […]

Too Much Fun

The last day of the session is always packed full.  After omelets for breakfast, kids had a morning of regular activities, earning those last few stars.  Then after a lunch of pizza bagels, kids packed up at rest hour and got ready for an afternoon of team competition.  We had three periods, like we normally […]

Those Last Few Stars

Campers have been working hard in activities to earn those last few stars before the session ends.  For those of you who are new to Deerhorn, campers can earn red, blue, and gold stars in each activity. Those points (25, 50, 100) count toward achievement patches for themselves for the end of the session (like […]
