Brothers at Deerhorn

Brother pictures are some of my favorites to take. I also love that kids have been asking me for days when I was going to take brother pictures. I always make the announcement at a meal that I’m taking brother pictures afterward and that if you have a brother at camp, you can come have your photo taken. However, I always get lots of kids who just want their picture taken with their “Deerhorn Brother.” I just love that. (Boys are notoriously not as cooperative about photos…) We love watching the bonds that emerge among new friends at camp, and watching the bonds grow stronger when boys share Deerhorn with their brothers. The older ones show the younger ones the ropes and help with their homesickness. The younger ones know they can always find their older brother if they need something. It’s pretty special to watch.

Today was another hot one, so trips to the Rave and all other waterfront activities were a welcome break from the heat. Breakfast was blueberry pancakes, lunch was fish nuggets and french fries, and dinner was roast turkey and sweet potatoes. Koogee 18 won inspection this week, so they headed into town to see a movie as their reward. And koogee 18 is a Voyager koogee, so that is REALLY impressive! 😉 Sports and Games played Balco Ball on DK Field. It’s yet another made up Deerhorn game involving both a wiffle ball and bat that are wrapped in duct tape and it’s played in the outfield of the baseball field. It was another jam-packed day at Deerhorn!
