“Life is what happens when you’re planning something else.”
As I mentioned yesterday, there is always a plan…and sometimes that plan changes…again…and again..and again. 🙂 We understand your concern about the air quality issue, and it sounds like those of you in Chicago experienced today what we had yesterday. We’ve also heard that there are reports of crazy high AQI (Air Quality Index) up here. And while it still isn’t in an ideal range, it’s better than it was yesterday. The actual number varies so much based on which app or website you’re looking at. This morning, we were able to have most activities continue as normal, but we limited the more strenuous activities. Biking kids all went to crafts, Sports and Games was in the basement of the Hall, tennis was in the upstairs of the hall, and basketball was in the lodge. All other activities continued as usual in this last morning of regular activities. After lunch, kids spent rest hour packing up. The forecast was that the air quality would improve by noon, but unfortunately, that’s not what happened. It was slightly higher this afternoon, so we had to continue to adjust. Normally, the last afternoon is three periods of team competition, ending in third period all camp Braveheart, everyone’s favorite camp game. But the air quality just didn’t let that happen. We pivoted to indoor team competitions, and at 4:00 we did the Waterlillies vs Landlubbers staff softball game. Staff played while kids cheered on their favorite players. Our hope was that the air quality would be better after dinner and we could do Braveheart. Sadly, that didn’t end up being the case either. So we pivoted again to have the juniors doing a skit night, the intermediates doing sandcastle building on the beach, and seniors playing a dice game called Left, Right, Center. We’re sad for our Voyagers, who didn’t get in their last camper game of Braveheart, but some things are out of our control. But even though plans didn’t go as we hoped today, we know that Deerhorn campers can have fun no matter what!
