Eagles Win Pug

Day 7 at Camp Deerhorn is definitely a favorite…especially since we get to sleep in an extra hour! The bell rings at 8:15 and we have breakfast at 9. This morning it was scrambled eggs and potatoes. After breakfast, kids got some rare free time at camp. There were optional activities running all morning, like a movie in the basement of the hall, kickball, gaga ball, and volleyball. At noon, Ben Winebrenner gave a great Words of Wisdom about being a good competitor and how to live the Creed line, “To play every game on the level, win modestly, lose gracefully, and have a kind word for the opposing side.”  We had sloppy joes and tater tots for lunch at 1:00 and then everyone had team meetings after lunch to prepare for the big team event.

Today’s event was Pugawaggan, another fun team event. It’s kind of a hard one to describe, but basically involves teams competing in different events and when that event is over, those teammates join the rest of their team in running to the next event. It’s everything from water jousting to archery. It ends with the Leader of each team paddling a half canoe from the A-Dock to the ski dock and the winner lights a fire at the campfire ring. The Eagles took first place, followed by the Wolves, Bears, and Bobcats.  It’s a VERY long event. It started at 3 and barely finished before first call for dinner, which is at 5:50.  After pasta dinner, it was time for koogee time from 7-8 and then we’ll have a campfire with s’mores at 8 to end this fun day. There  were a lot of photos taken, but since the event went so long, all photos from today’s event will be posted tomorrow.
