Final Day & Water Campfire

That photo above might be one of my favorite ever taken at camp. Our Hobie mast broke two years ago and we are still working on getting it fixed. Sailing this morning decided that it had sat on the beach for long enough…they would “sail it” in a different way. Pure joy on those faces. Camp is full of awesome activities, but the things that spark the best memories are the things that are out of the ordinary, like mud wrestling after a rain storm, or paddling a Hobie together. I just love this photo so much. There are several of them on today’s photos.

Breakfast this morning was pancakes and sausage, and lunch was burgers and potato wedges. It’s a busy day today at Deerhorn. The last full day of camper sessions and we’ve been running all day. This morning was the last three activity periods of the summer, as kids worked to earn those last stars or ski one more time. After lunch it was time to pack up during rest hour, so we could move trunks this afternoon. This afternoon was three periods of team competition, with the third period being all camp Braveheart! After dinner, it’s time for the Water Campfire, where we honor the Deerhorn legacies of the four team Leaders, Walker Blaustein, Sully Sherry, Des Mangat, and Navin Linson. We are hoping to have it outside, but the weather forecast doesn’t look good. If it rains, we will have it in the lodge, but fingers crossed for better than forecasted weather. Each Leader has someone introduce them, then they give a speech, then someone plays a song of their choosing. It’s always a deeply meaningful night. Eventually we will get it posted on Youtube so everyone can see it!
