They’ve waited all summer and their session is finally here! Some kids arrived throughout the day by car and they joined activity groups by age, doing activities like sprout ball and world cup soccer. After lunch, the kids who arrived by car took their swim tests and then joined everyone else in activities while we waited for the buses. The buses arrived around 2:00 and it was finally time to get this full party started! We moved luggage into koogees and settled in, then all of the bus kids headed down to the beach to take their swim test. Once those were all done, we had a meeting in the lodge to introduce the staff and go over a few rules. After the meeting, we did some sports between koogees until dinner. We played games like gaga ball, sprout ball, kickball, lawn soccer, and ultimate frisbee. Sprout ball is one of our very favorite games at Deerhorn. It’s a big game of dodgeball played inside a circle and basically the game never ends until one person gets everyone out. We had spaghetti and meatballs and focaccia bread for dinner, with apple crisp for dessert. After dinner, it was time for the Deerhorn Combine. Kids go all over camp with their koogee, doing events like the long jump and discus throw, while the Leaders walk around meeting kids in preparation for their draft tonight. Kids will find out tomorrow what teams they’re on, and that’s always an exciting day!
