It was another beautiful sunny day at Deerhorn, though cooler than yesterday. Campers had their first six activities yesterday and the other six activities today. The only activity they have every day is Sports and Games, because we combine two activity groups to be able to play sports like soccer and baseball, and games that have been invented over the years at Deerhorn. They play something different every day. Today Sports and Games played Star Wars on the baseball field, which is yet another version of dodgeball. We have a lot of those around here!
Breakfast was doughnuts and pastries, and lunch was grilled cheese and tomato soup, so you know those two meals were big crowd favorites! Kids are settling into the Deerhorn routine and working to earn stars in activities. In each activity, they earn a red star (25 points) for participation, a blue star (50 points) for more skills demonstrated in that activity and a gold star (100 points) for full mastery of the activity. Points count toward an individual patch earned at the end of the session, but also toward team totals. Some kids love working hard for stars and others want to just have fun. Either way is fine with us!
The Pioneers and Voyager have been hard at work in meetings, as they have a lot to pack into 35 days at camp. The Pioneers are especially busy since they leave for their 8 day backpacking trip on Monday!
