Today is always our most favorite day and our least favorite day. We get to announce the 4 Leaders for the upcoming summer, but we also have to send emails to all the incredible kids who weren’t chosen. We’re a little later than usual on the announcement this year. Half of our directors live in Florida, and 2 hurricanes have massively disrupted the life of Deerhorn South. We are glad to report that the Florida Broadbridges are all doing well, but that’s what has delayed this process.
Before we introduce you to the Leaders of 2025, we’d like to send a note to all of the 15 year-olds who weren’t chosen to be a Leader. We know that today is a disappointing day and we want you to know how much we value all of you and your years of loyalty to Deerhorn. We hope that your love for camp runs deep and that you will spend many more years at Deerhorn, sharing your love for camp with campers as a valuable member of our staff. You can fill out a staff application to be an Assistant Counselor here. Some of our very best Deerhorn counselors over the years were not Deerhorn Leaders, but they spent years as an AC and a counselor. We know that summers are increasingly busy for teenagers these days, but we hope that you’ll carve out some time to spend at Deerhorn next summer. There will always be a place for you at Deerhorn, and we’re so glad you’re part of the Deerhorn Family.
And now, without further adieu, we’d like to introduce you to the four kids who will lead the Deerhorn teams in 2025. Together, they have a combined THIRTY years as Deerhorn campers, and they hail from all across the United States. We know that they are going to help our campers have the best summer yet!
Mark Nomellini is from Chicago, Illinois and has been a camper for 9 summers! He has three brothers who have all gone to camp, and he will lead the Deerhorn Bears like his brother Emmett did. Mark is always quick with a smile and is friends with kids of all ages.
Zach Osborn is returning to camp for his 6th summer as a camper and is from Oakland, California. He is leading the Deerhorn Bobcats, and his dad, Mike, was a Deerhorn Leader as well. We’re not sure who is more excited about Zach’s Leader summer…Zach, or his dad! 😉 Zach towers over everyone at camp, but he is the kindest, gentlest soul you could hope to meet. We know his energy will be contagious among our campers!
Walker Dulaney hails from Louisville, Kentucky and is returning for his 7th summer to lead the Deerhorn Wolves. He includes everyone around him in the fun, and don’t let his quiet demeanor fool you. We know he’s going to rally the Deerhorn Wolves next summer!
Bennett Blaustein returns to camp for his 8th year as a camper to lead the Deerhorn Eagles. He’s from Denver, Colorado and has a smile and kind word for everyone he meets. His brother, Walker, led the Bears last summer, so we’ll have to see how Bennett’s Eagles stack up to Walker’s Bears! He’s psyched for the summer of 2025!
