Our D session ended this morning. We capped the session with our awards breakfast, as always, and there were lots of amazing awards passed out. We recognized first time skiers and wakeboarders, and gave rifle awards for high scores to Pierce Nomellini for juniors, Harvey Plandowski for intermediates, and Michael Quattrocki for seniors. Tennis champions were Hunter Billmeyer for the 11 and under tournament, and Pablo Casacuberta for 12 and over. Deerhorn Spirit awards were given to Kieran Andrews for juniors, Henry Kovas for intermediates, and Alex Stamos for seniors. Outstanding camper trophies went to Ferghus McCarthy-Schmidt for juniors, Sandy Yarranton-Snow for intermediates, and Mark Nomellini for seniors. We also gave out some big summer awards. Alex Stamos won the Lloyd Richmond Sailing Award. Max SooHoo won the David Richie Swimming Award. Oliver Gershey won the Dr. Don horseback riding award. The Stinky Robinson Knife award is given to the senior camper who has given the most in service and loyalty to Camp Deerhorn in his years at camp. The Knife award winner this year was Bennett Blaustein! Videos of the speeches given for award winners will be posted on our Facebook page. In team comp news, the Wolves have overtaken the Eagles to take first place! However, they are only 100 points out of first, so it’s anyone’s summer going into our final session of the year! Team comp totals can be found on our website. We have 30 kids staying over for E session, and they are heading to Sawmill Adventure Park for an afternoon of trampoline park fun!
The end of D session is always the hardest goodbye. We have 26 kids who are 15 and were Voyagers and Pioneers. They have been at camp for 4 1/2 weeks, and for most of them, it’s their last summer as a camper. So the goodbyes at the bus this morning were the hardest of the summer. Four of them will be chosen for Leaders in 2025, and we hope that the others know we hope they come back next year to work as Assistant Counselors. There is always a place for all of them in the Deerhorn Family! Thanks to all of our D session parents for sharing your sons with us this session!
