Day 7 of each session at Camp Deerhorn is always a special one. For one, we’re all SUPER excited to sleep in an extra hour and have breakfast at 9am. This morning it was scrambled eggs and potatoes. After breakfast, kids had some free time around camp for a couple of hours. There were some free choice activities like dodgeball, kickball, ultimate frisbee, basketball, lawn soccer, or watching a movie in the basement of the hall. At noon, Vincent Mangat gave us a great Words of Wisdom about his favorite line of the Creed “To Enjoy the Great Outdoors as one of the Gifts of Life.” Lunch at 1:00 was sloppy joes and tater tots. After rest hour, it was time for the big event of the day, Chariots of Fire! Each team must “challenge the gods” in various events like archery and tennis, to win pieces of their chariot. When all the pieces are at the soccer field, the Leader can begin building his chariot. Once the chariot is finished, the leader is pulled by his team across the soccer field! The victors today were the Eagles, followed by the Bobcats, Wolves, and Bears. It was a really fun afternoon of team competition on a gorgeous sunshine day! After dinner, kids will gather with their koogee for some koogee time, and then we’ll enjoy another Deerhorn campfire.
