Day 7 of each session is a Special Day at Camp Deerhorn. We sleep in an hour and have breakfast at 9am. This morning it was scrambled eggs and potatoes. After breakfast, kids had some rare free time around camp. There was a movie going in the basement of the Hall (where it’s always a cool 65 degrees, a welcome break from this 90 degree day!). There were other activities going as well, like ultimate frisbee, sand castle building, and kickball. At noon, Henry Coleman gave the Words of Wisdom in the lodge. That’s a short talk that a counselor gives about something that has been important in their life. We had sloppy joes and tater tots for lunch at 1, and after rest hour, it was time for the first big team event of the summer! Today was the Treasure Hunt, where campers gather on the beach with their Leader and have a long list of items they have to go find around camp. It culminates with their Leader following a map to find buried treasure and the first one back to the beach wins. The Bobcats took first place today, followed by the Wolves, Eagles, and Bears. It was a fun afternoon of team competition, and everyone was excited for the machine gun run into the water at the end to cool off! After dinner, we’ll have some koogee time followed by the first campfire of this session.
