I write a blog most days of the summer, talking about the weather, the food, the activities. And no matter the words I use, they often feel inadequate to fully convey the magic that is Deerhorn. So I could tell you that it was doughnuts for breakfast this morning, and homemade pizza and caesar salad for lunch. I could tell you that Sports and Games is playing Klepton today, which is another crazy Deerhorn game, but that groups 1 and 2 wanted to play ultimate frisbee instead. I could tell you that the sun is shining, the sky is blue, and the temperature is a perfect 80 degrees while the breeze blows off the lake. But the photos tell the story way better than I ever could. And the intern I have for B, C, and D sessions tells that story beautifully. Cam Routenberg has been incredible this summer. He has his own photography business and you would never know that he’s only going into his junior year of high school. (Intern appreciation post coming soon!) Many of his photos capture the essence of Deerhorn…the idea that Deerhorn is a Boyhood Adventure. That whether they are jumping on the Rave, playing with the dogs, goofing around on sailboards, or shooting hoops, at the simplest level they have been given a gift in this busy, stressful world…the gift of just being a boy.
