The end of a session is always sad, saying goodbye to our friends. But C Session goodbyes are always the hardest. It’s the session most of our Voyagers leave, and this year we had 22 amazing kids doing the Voyager program. For most of them, it’s their last summer as a camper, and the end is bittersweet. We hope all of them who aren’t picked to be a Leader next summer will come back to work on staff as Assistant Counselors. If they do, our AC program next year will be stacked!
We finished off our C session with our awards breakfast this morning. Rifle awards for high scores went to Charlie Perlitz for juniors, with a 29, Jorge Hagg Martinez for intermediates with a 39, and Ben Tackett for seniors with a 46. Spirit awards went to Bram Maneri for juniors, Bauer Nichols for intermediates, and Simon Fechheimer for seniors. Outstanding Camper trophies went to Teddy Chau for juniors, Pierce Nomellini for intermediates, and Alex Stanca for seniors. We also gave out our biggest camper award, the Stinky Robinson Knife Award to Fisher Nichols. It is given every summer to the senior boy who has contributed the most in service and loyalty to Deerhorn. The Eagles continue to hold onto their lead at the end of C session. You can see full scores on our team comp page. Videos from this morning’s award speeches will be posted later on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
We have 31 kids staying over for D session, and they have a fun afternoon planned. They are headed to Mincoqua for putt putt, bowling, and the Min-Aqua Bats waterski show tonight!
Our air quality has continued to improve throughout the day. We can actually see the other side of the lake now, and the sun is shining! If your son is staying for D (or arriving tomorrow for D) you should have received an email this morning about our air quality and plans and procedures. We tried to get one out to C session parents, but the last several days have been crazy with constant pivoting of plans as well as wrapping up a session. We may have to pivot again this weekend if the smoke returns, but we send lots of prayers to Canada in their fight against the wildfires!
