Summer is finally here and we have hit the ground running.  Our first Father Son session started today, and most dads stayed in town last night so that they could be here first thing this morning to take full advantage of a day of activities.  I think most dads would tell you that they must have done every activity in camp today! We had quite a few dads who drove into the parking lot, their kids opened the car door, and they were gone! Lots of dads checking in at the office today already missing their kids. It’s so rewarding for us to know that kids feel that comfortable at Deerhorn that they know they can head straight to activities.

We were blessed with the best weather for our opening day of the season.  Sunshine, blue skies, and a beautiful breeze off the lake.  The water was definitely a little chilly, but it didn’t stop kids and dads from heading to the Rave!  We had all the activities running today, including lots of great horseback rides with first-time riders.  Sports and Games played Sprout Ball and some good games of street hockey on the Skeeter.  For lunch we had pulled pork and dinner was spaghetti.  Lots of kids gathered on the Z dock at 5:00 to try to catch the “big fish.”  After dinner, we introduced the staff and then dads and kids played some team games.  We ended our day with the first campfire of the season. (Though many of our families chose to watch the Blackhawks/Lightning game tonight instead!)

We are blessed to be surrounded by some incredible families, lots of old familiar faces and many new friends.  Thanks to everyone for sharing these next four days with us!
