Phew! Apologies for no blog post yesterday! It was both the last full day of B session and a national holiday, so we didn’t stop running all day! The morning was the last three periods of regular activities for B session. Kids worked hard to earn those final stars. Kids were excited for the 4th of July, and there was lots of singing and chanting at every meal. Lunch was burgers and then kids headed to their koogees during rest hour to pack up. The afternoon consisted of the 4th of July relays. We were supposed to play Braveheart for the end of the afternoon, but we had some rain came through that drove us all inside for just a bit. After ribs and mac and cheese for dinner, we boarded buses to head to Hodag Park for the waterski show and fireworks. It was fun, but a little chaotic, and the fireworks didn’t start until later than anticipated. But once they started, they were really good! Check out our Instagram and FB stories to see them.
This morning was the awards breakfast to wrap up B session. We passed out lots of awards this morning, including Most Improved patches and patches earned for stars. Deerhorn Sharpshooter awards for high scores in riflery went to Fede and Jorge Hagg Martinez for juniors, Cris de Castro and James Harlin for intermediates, and Jack Friedman, Brady McGuire, and Mark Zsirai for seniors. Tennis trophies were awarded to Landon Harris for 11 and under, and Jack Friedman for 12 and up.
The Deerhorn Spirit awards went to Charlie Swanson for juniors, Charlie Moran for intermediates, and Teddy Wormley for seniors. Outstanding Camper awards went to Will Newman for juniors, Jack Bennett for intermediates, and Tommy Kennedy for seniors. Videos from those speeches are posted on our Facebook page. The Eagles have held onto their lead for the end of B session. Team totals can be found on our Team Competition page.
We have 43 kids staying over for the C session, but 14 of them are Pioneers and still out on their trip until Monday. They are doing great and are having a grand adventure! The 29 kids who are here at camp headed to Wausau to Sawmill Adventure Park, for some afternoon trampoline time, and then tonight they’re headed to a Wausau Woodchucks baseball game. Kids are so excited for some Chucks baseball! It’s been a whirlwind 2 days to cap off B session, and we’re ready to welcome almost 100 more kids tomorrow for C!
