While we love our Father Son camps, we are so excited to start our first camper-only session today. These A session kids will be here for 10 days and they arrived at camp with lots of excitement and smiles and hit the ground running! We had about 40 kids who stayed over from our second Father Son camp, and they had a great time yesterday at the Waters of Minocqua. But today it’s time to get the real action started!
As kids arrive today by car, they were put into groups according to age to do activities this morning and afternoon. (Juniors are 10 and up, Intermediates are 11 & 12, and Seniors are 13 and up.) They joined the kids who stayed over for activities like tennis, biking/crafts, and Sports and Games. We usually do swim tests in the afternoon of opening day, but it was cold and rainy so we will do swim tests tomorrow. Luckily, the rain stopped before the buses arrived at 3!
After kids got settled in their koogees, we had a meeting at the campfire ring to introduce the staff. Afterward, kids were split into activity groups again by age and played fun games like ultimate frisbee and sprout ball. After dinner, they will play another fun camp game, Capture the Flag. We’ll end this first day of A session with milkline at 8:15, where kids gather with their koogee in the lodge for a graham cracker and milk, settling down for the night. Eleven and under kids go to bed at 9pm, twelve year-olds at 9:15pm, and teenagers have lights out at 10pm. It always seems early for kids that first night, but we need good sleep to start our day tomorrow at 7:15am!
Our first camper session of the summer is off to a great start! Photos from this session will be uploaded to our Shutterfly site later tonight, and a few pics and videos can be found on our Facebook and Instagram @campdeerhorn. Thanks for sharing your sons with us for ten days…they’re going to have a blast!
