Chetan’s Memorial

Many of you have been asking for details about Chetan’s service and celebration of life. Below is an email from his wife, Deborah, detailing how it all will be done, in light of the pandemic. Questions can be emailed to amy@deerhorn.com.

It is with great sadness that I let you know that Chetan passed away this past Wednesday, June 10th.  He was at home and surrounded by the boys and me.  His glioblastoma brain cancer is dead now… and he is whole again and living on in peace!

A memorial service will be live-streamed to celebrate Chetan’s life on Wednesday, June 17th at 11am.  https://bit.ly/2WiEMBV

Under normal circumstances, we know our church would be filled with those we love supporting us.  As an alternative (in these unusual times), we would like to recreate the feeling of seeing you in the Church by opening the service with a video montage of photos of all those virtually attending.  (Since we are recreating the idea of seeing you in the Church, please just find a picture of those virtually watching together… not with Chetan.)  This video will introduce the live-stream, and also will be projected at the Church for us to see.  To have your picture included, please send it to juliebendahelms@gmail.com by this Sunday evening.  Please also include how you would like your name(s) listed.  Thank you for contributing towards this special way to open the service.

We will continue with a Celebration of Chetan’s life on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in the Phadnis’s backyard.  Please use this link to sign up for a date and 30 min time-slot to help us manage the numbers of people here at one time.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0a4aaca62d6-chetans  Given the pandemic times, please wear a face mask and we are sorry that we can’t offer refreshments.

Since attendees won’t have a chance to see many others and share memories, we have another request…  Please use a 4″X6″ blank note card (one side only) to write your name, connection to Chetan or the family, and a story or memory of Chetan.  You can drop these off on our front porch at any time in the box, bring them with you to the celebration, or if you aren’t able to attend you can email them to alisonkwhitlock@gmail.com.  We will also have materials for you to capture it at the event if you’d wish.  They will be displayed in our yard for all to enjoy.

Chetan’s obituary will be in this Sunday’s Chicago Tribune.  You can also view it here: https://www.nhscotthanekamp.com/obituaries/Chetan-Surendra-Phadnis?obId=15034622#/obituaryInfo

Thank you for all of your love and support at this difficult time.  We feel the love!
