Deerhorn February Update

Well, we made it to 2021! Even though some days it feels like we are still living in 2020, we know that the year ahead holds great promise, and light at the end of what has been a very long tunnel! While camp lies quiet and peaceful beneath a blanket of snow, behind the scenes we are very busy preparing for the summer of 2021.

There are many uncertainties still surrounding the pandemic, and information continues to change quickly.  We are working closely with other camp owners, the state of Wisconsin, county health inspectors, and professional camp associations to plan for a fun, yet safe, summer.  While it’s still too early for specific plans, we will keep you updated as we make decisions. Camp might look a little different, but we are committed to fostering the brotherhood that makes Deerhorn so special.

What we know for sure is that there is no one perfect way to protect against the virus. We will work to build the “swiss cheese model,” as discussed in recent months by health professionals. Each layer (masks, social distancing, hand-washing, etc) has “holes,” but as we stack them on each other, together they provide increasing protection. Studies about camps who opened last summer showed that the more layers of protection, the lower their number of cases.

We know many things will change over the next few months, but in the meantime, we are encouraging parents and staff to be vaccinated as soon as it is available to them.  We also encourage families to do everything possible to follow CDC guidelines, including social distancing and wearing masks. We know that everyone has pandemic fatigue, but now is not the time to let down our guard. We just need to hang in there a little longer.  Together, we can help drive cases down and help make summer a success!

As we get closer to the summer, we will provide specifics based on science.  As always, the health and safety of your children is our top priority.  We are encouraged by the hundreds of families who plan to return this summer. We know how much your boys need camp. We look forward to working with our families to continue providing Boyhood Adventures for many years to come.

We miss these faces, and we want to do everything in our power to make camp happen this summer. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 2 years since we’ve seen your boys. We know that we will be blown away at how much they have grown! As always, you can reach out by phone (800-713-3130) or email (deerhorn@deerhorn.com) with any questions or concerns.

On a different note, several people have asked if we have an online store. We do have a store available, and the items are different than the ones we sell at camp.  You can find the store HERE.

Thank you for the blessing you have been in our lives!
