Our Explorer Trip left this morning after breakfast, with 9 kids and 2 leaders. They were really excited to be on their way, heading for a 3 day kayaking adventure. They will kayak and camp in the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, which is about a 90 minute drive from camp. Their camping menu includes chili, pesto pasta, bagels & cream cheese, oatmeal, pancakes, and tuna melts. We’ll all be looking forward to hearing about their trip when they return Sunday.
Last night’s dinner was chicken fajitas, which everyone loves, and then campers participated in team competitions of handball, koogeeball, and indian ball (dodgeball). This morning’s breakfast was coffee cake and that was a big hit as well. We woke to sunshine this morning, but unfortunately it started raining after breakfast, and we’re hoping that it will stop around lunchtime like it’s supposed to. We’ve definitely had a lot of rain this spring & summer, and we’re ready for a long stretch of sunshine. We haven’t had any of the flooding problems as in other parts of the midwest, but it’s not helping our mosquito situation either. Even though we’ve had a few rainy days, most of them are short-lived, and kids have still been having fun in activities, like playing board games or rafterball in the lodge.
Today’s lunch menu is italian subs. Tonight at dinner is our first and only letter day of this session. Kids will bring a letter home to dinner and we’ll get them mailed off tomorrow. It’s amazing how quickly this session goes, and it’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through.
