“If a tree falls in the woods, and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?”

If a camper has a blast at camp, and no picture is taken of it, did he still have tons of fun?

The answer, of course, is yes. We understand that it is tough, as a parent, to let your kids spend 10 days or more away from home…to wonder what he is up to, to hope he is taking showers and brushing his teeth, to want to know how he’s feeling and if he’s having fun. We do our best through this blog and through our pictures on Shutterfly to give parents a window into the world of their camper, to see the activities he’s doing, to know what team he’s on, to get a better picture of life at camp. It’s important to keep in mind, however, that a picture isn’t always worth 1,000 words. He might be looking like he’s not participating, when really he’s just sitting down because he just got tagged out in a game of sprout ball. He might not be in a lot of pictures because he runs away from the photographer every time she shows up. And he might not be smiling because he’s focusing intently on a project he’s working on…

Funny Comic

Of course, if you have concerns about your camper, you are always welcome to call or email and discuss them with a director. Yes, he is probably wearing the same shirt today that he did yesterday, because he’s super proud to be an Apache. And he’s a boy who is learning independence and self-reliance while away from his parents.  But today is laundry day at dinner, so that team shirt WILL get washed. Or at least we will do our best to make that happen. 🙂

Last night was a great dinner of chicken and biscuits, and then after dinner was koogee skit night. They were given three props and then had 30 minutes to come up with a skit around those three objects. There was a lot of laughter in the lodge last night. We also had letter day at dinner last night, so everyone has a letter home going out today. To parents who are reading this, and sending their son to a later session…Pre-addressed envelopes are a godsend. You wouldn’t believe the number of kids who don’t know how to address an envelope…and also, we know how atrocious their handwriting can be!

We had lots of storms last night, but awoke to sunshine and a pancake breakfast.  Today’s forecast is the best we’ve had in a few days…it’s warm and sunny and we are all grateful.

Fantastic post!!! The cartoon is classic. You captured the parent, grandparent, aunts, etc. (I’m sure I’m leaving out some member of the crew that looks for Soren’s photo each day) feelings exactly.

Thanks! We thought it was pretty funny, especially since we understand how the camp photographer feels, and I can’t even tell you how often that has happened. Kids are just too busy to stop for pictures. 🙂
