Busy Days

The sun is shining again today at Deerhorn, and our weather forecast looks great! Sports and Games is playing Ultimate Frisbee on the soccer field today. (Though, at Deerhorn, it’s called Hucka Freya.) And while activities are keeping most campers busy, our Voyagers are even busier! This year, we have so many kids who wanted to do the Voyager Leadership Program that we have two trips. Voyagers have to stay A,B, and C sessions, and let me tell you, it is a LOT to fit two trips into 3 sessions. They’ve spent the last few days having multiple meetings a day, learning about tent and stove set up, leadership, and Leave No Trace camping. The first trip leaves Sunday, so that group was on the water yesterday, learning kayak basic safety. They food packed this afternoon, will do final packing tomorrow, and leave first thing Sunday morning for their 8 day trip to Voyageurs National Park! As we set up the lodge for food packing this morning before lunch, it was fun to watch the younger kids ask questions of the Voyagers about what all that food was for. Kids look forward to the Voyager Program for years, and for this group of 22, it’s finally their turn! Eleven of them will leave on Sunday and return the following Sunday. The other half will leave July 5th and return the 12th. It’s a whirlwind for sure!
